Montpellier! A day off and a night out with the Missus. Maybe the best meal I have ever had in a restaurant here and the black run of cycle touring, the Pyrenees, complete!
After entering Spain I cycled for 19 days and covered about 1700km without a day off!
Stage 3 compete! 2094km from Brighton to Santiago!
Mountains have been conquered and friends made. This really is starting to turn into the epic adventure I had dreamed of.
Where am I? What is going on? Hopefully from reading this blog you have so far come to some conclusions such as – ‘what is this pillock up too? He obviously has no idea about cycle touring!’
After my rest day in Paris, which didn’t involve any resting as we walked the best part of 20km sightseeing – stage 2 began. Spent the morning frantically google mapping out a route which then had to get onto GPS and print out. The missus helped loads!

This is a route I have been thinking about for ages. Anybody else thinking of doing it – I advise go book the time off work now! Then go get your bike ready!
It’s a well pedalled path and as such, easy to find info about. One of the highlights has to be the Avenue Verde – a sign posted, totally traffic free section that at present starts shortly after Dieppe and runs for the best part of 50km – following a disused railway line. If that doesn’t tempt you, this first part also follows a river, so no hills! It doesn’t get any easier!
So here it is! Stages 1 and 2 complete of my epic. Have cycled from Brighton (UK) to my folks place in Les Loges, which is somewhere in the middle of France. In total that’s about 680km in 8 days and included a stop off in Paris to go see the missus. As any body who owns a bike would know, that’s a good distance to cycle without getting a puncture.
